"Your spirit is the true shield." (Morihei Ueshiba)
What is Aikido?
Aikido is a traditional, non-aggressive, non-competitive Japanese martial art developed by the late Japanese master, Morihei Ueshiba (1883-1969), known as “O Sensei”. It is often referred to as the “Art of Peace”.
For the purpose of training Aikido techniques appear gentle and smooth, however with proper extension the techniques can be quite effective.
The practice of Aikido unifies heart, mind and body through martial technique. Aikido is a true form of Budo.
"I am not teaching you how to move your feet; I'm teaching you how to move your mind." (Morihei Ueshiba)
Adult's Aikido
Aikido does not require physical strength or an aggressive spirit. Regardless of your age, fitness level or size, Aikido techniques will enable you to immobilize or throw an opponent.
Whether you are an adult, teenager or for your child, male or female, LGBTQI, mature or young; whether you are looking for fun, fitness or self-defence, you are welcome to come along and watch any of our Aikido classes.
Better still come along prepared and participate in a class
Aikido students are diverse, with female and male participants of all ages ranging from teenagers to seniors. Aikido exercises the whole body. It teaches and develops flexibility, coordination, balance, and spontaneous reaction. We train in a supportive and caring environment, always mindful of understanding the individual. Train at your own pace to suit your needs and lifestyle.
"The purpose of training is to tighten the slack, toughen the body and polish the spirit." (Morihei Ueshiba)
Kid's Aikido
There are dedicated children’s classes. Aikido is a method of practical self-defence to help your child gradually develop the skills of awareness and spontaneous movement. This skill will assist evading a threatening situation. Your child will gain a strong sense of focus and self-confidence while practicing in a friendly atmosphere.
Unlike other martial arts, Aikido focuses on conflict resolution, self-improvement, and fostering cooperation. Rather than teaching aggressive techniques, our classes empower children to diffuse confrontations while developing essential life skills.
